Working in our fast-paced commercial salon, you’ll enhance the beauty of hands and feet with essential manicure and pedicure techniques, and master the art of basic skincare, including toning, cleansing, and moisturising treatments.

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

During this course, you will cover the following!

  • Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
  • Health and safety in the salon
  • Basic manicure
  • Basic pedicure
  • Skin care
  • Working with others in the hair and beauty sector
  • Basic makeup application
  • Presenting a professional image in a salon
  • Create a hair and beauty image

You will be assessed through a combination of practical assessments and written tasks.

You should have 2 GCSEs at grade 2 or above including English and/or maths.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below a grade 4 in your English and maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your course when you join us.

Once you have successfully completed this course, you may choose to develop your knowledge and skills further by completing the Level 2 in Beauty Therapy.

Additional Information

As part of this programme, you are required to wear a uniform (tunic), which will be worn with black trousers or a skirt and a full black shoe. Our recommended uniform supplier is Florence Roby. There is also a kit required to complete your assessments which can be purchased from our recommended supplier. More information will be provided during the application process, and you may be eligible for a bursary to cover these costs.

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2025), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation.
